Adsense Watchdog, Zombiestat, Vampirestat, Villainstat and Uglystat Blog Traffic
If you have a blog and check to see where the traffic to your blog originates, you may notice traffic from websites called Vampirestat.com, Adsensewatchdog.com, Villainstat.com, Uglystat.com and/or Zombiestat.com. First off, don't click on them to find out why they are sending you traffic.

Neither Adsensewatchdog, nor any of these others have anything whatsoever to do with Google or Google AdSense and are essentially spam sites that use automated traffic to blogs to attract clicks to their own sites from blog owners such as you. Once you're at their site, at a minimum, you'll be fed ads. At worst, you might fall victim to malevolent code that seeks to infect your computer with who knows what (although I haven't verified that these particular sites are seeking to plant anything on your machine).

Stay away. Traffic from these sites won't affect your standing with the real Adsense, so just ignore them.

Adsense Watchdog and the others can be traced to:

Protected Domain Services - Customer ID: NCR-3559746
P.O. Box 6197
Denver

US
Phone: +1.3037474010
Email Address: adsensewatchdog.com@protecteddomainservices.com

Which is just a company that holds domain names for anonymous clients. If the domain owner wishes to stay hidden behind such a firewall of anonymity, that's should be another red flag.

Firebird...you're not the only. I'm part that club. I just Googled Vampirestat and the first two entries on Google are articles about how it and others are spambots. Not good.

The funny things is my SiteMeter stats counter doesn't acknowledge Vampirestat while my Blogger Dashboard counter does.

I NOW know why the difference between the two numbers.

I've tweeted this article to my Twitter account. Thanks.

I don't know if it's of any help, but they seem to monitor twitter for news of blogs. If you tweet about your blog, expect a visit from vampirestat

Here's what I'm curious about... They "visit" the blog the minute I have a new post up. It's almost instantaneous.... How do they know? Have they planted code on my blog that I can't see? On my computer? Any insight? I edited an old post for a typo and they hit it. Then posted a new post and they hit again. Frustrating. I'm so new to all of this...just trying to learn. Thanks!

Good observation, Shannon. I have also noticed 4 other things: (1) the Audience locations include obscure places besides the U.S. and I have read that they are able to somehow redirect their point of origination. (2) Their visits to my sites occur at somewhat regular intervals (3) Their visits go to random pages (4) When I go back to pages that I have left idle and make edits, it attracts more hits from these varmints. So, since clicking on their links poses potential risks, why aren't they either illegal, blockable or, at the very least, highly regulated?

azulmarinaJanuary 18, 2013 at 3:36 PM
thanks, it seems like they're bots

gayleneMarch 9, 2013 at 6:57 AM
I've wondered the same thing, Shannon. I've never clicked on their name, but I'm curious how they know each time I do anything on my blog?

Thank you Rasna. I have sent the thief a message asking them to remove the stolen copyrighted material from their blog. If no action results, then I'll inform Google of the violation. Google reserves the right to cancel accounts including Blogger and Adsense when its terms of service are violated.

Bradley SylvesterJanuary 6, 2013 at 2:59 PM
No response or changes from the plagiarist, so I reported it to Google and the stolen page is gone.

Rev. Jurneyman VFebruary 21, 2013 at 12:41 PM
If your intent in posting this was to provide useful information to bloggers, than why would it matter if someone copied the post? Wouldn't that just mean that more bloggers might be educated about the potential risks of these sites? It seems a little silly to care about who said what.

Bradley SylvesterFebruary 22, 2013 at 5:21 AM
I make my living by writing. One source of my income is ad revenue from my blogs. When people steal what I have written, they get paid for my work through the ad revenue on their blogs. If someone wants to buy a blog post from me,that's fine, but using my owrk to take money out of my poscket and put it into their own is not cool - and it's illegal.

Breanna ByrdMarch 25, 2013 at 8:20 AM
Good for you Bradley, and thank you for posting.

Prixel DerpMarch 31, 2013 at 8:50 AM
Likewise, I'm here to say good for you for getting your stolen work taken down.

And think of it this way, Rev: You worked hard on something. IT'S YOUR WORK. Do you want others taking it and making money off it without your permission? You seriously didn't consider that?

Prixel DerpMarch 31, 2013 at 8:55 AM

I have a feeling these are sites that use bots to monitor potential profits from posts than have a possibility to make cheesy lawyers and judges more $$$ in courts. Also bots that are maintaining content based firewalls, for the people that prefer their freedom of expression filtered.

i am an idiot. before researching i had clicked on a few of the links from my computer. i got a really scary virus called BANKER.psw6. This is an identity theft trojan and is a BITCH to get rid of. This virus will also re-direct searches to volatile websites designed to steal more information from the user. Requires manually going into your registry to get rid of it, uninstalling/reinstalling browser and sometimes a reformat. Pretty sure Zombiestat was the culprit since I mostly use my computer for school, blogging and Facebook. I don't really use it to visit very many other sites. Very scary!

I have been researching this issue for a few weeks because the "stat" sites make up a low but consistent amount of traffic that adds up over time. On one blog, Google wound up tossing stat info for Adsense for a bunch of traffic, some of it spam while others, they, the blog authors, were not so sure. What way does Google have to know for Sure that certain traffic is or is not legit when making an Adsense determination? The authors of the blog I was reading said they had activity tossed by Google even though they felt like it was legit. It was basically up to Google to make the call, and they did. How do we know that the right call is being made? For sites that depend on revenue, how do we know that its not an effort by Google to keep from passing on real revenue? I wonder.

EpicspibJanuary 18, 2013 at 5:01 PM
That sucks that they are just bots. I was hoping it was traffic to my newly made blog. But, since I still am very new to this, it does make me a little happy to see I got some (artificial) page views. Now, I'll have to wait patiently for the real thing.

FYI, although I do have ads in text and served by Google on the pages of my blog, there are no pop-up ads on my site. If you're seeing a pop-up opening in a new window or tab when visiting this blog, perhaps you've been vicitmized by some adware from another source?

LorriAnneMarch 18, 2013 at 11:42 AM
The ad I had pop up when I came here was from infolinks so I don't think it's a virus. I found this post on Google Groups, though. https://productforums.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!topic/blogger/usoPeyTHARg/discussion[1-25-true] I didn't click on anything in my stats. Always search for something you don't know what it is before you click it. There are too many scammers out there who want to do harm your computer, steal your identity, spy on you, and so on. When you go where you don't know where online, you open doors to these people that you would not do in real life, with your home's front door. Knowledge is power, so always educate yourself.

You can always paste a string of words from your own blog post in quotation marks into a Google search box to see if it has been posted elsewhere. Choose something that would be unlikely to be found in other content. Remember, if someone uses a very brief (100 words) excerpt and links back to your original for those wanting to read more, that's generally a good thing for you. Copying the whole post or most of it with or without a link back is generally bad (and a copyright violation).

At this point, 2 years into the blog, they only make up a small percentage of the traffic, so they're really just an annoyance now. But when I first started blogging, my laptop suddenly crashed from a virus. I only use it for blogging, FB, and Twitter, so I was at a loss to explain the origin. Now, I suspect one of those sites was the problem, because I'm pretty sure I did click on one or two of them trying to discover what they were. I also have a question. I get a few hits each month from domar.ru. Since my blog is not in Russian, is this another spam site?

I am glad to have confirmation of what I thought was happening. I took my website down because I didn't believe the 6000 hits a month. Now I run a blog that shot from 1 hit a day to over 30. I notice most of those come from the listed sites.

I am not convinced anybody actually reads my blogs or views my websites. I ran a business site for a few years that generated no business and no phonecalls despite being optimized. I have the feeling that the internet is a huge red herring. I only read one blog because I know the guy that writes it. I look at certain websites - possibly half a dozen and no more. I don't buy online. I expect everybody else is the same.

It doesn't matter how well optimized a website is. I just found I couldn't get the internet to work for me in a financially meaningful way - whatever I was selling. All this zombiestat stuff is, in my opinion, people trying to get hits onto websites. You see the adverts - pay $20 for 2,000 hits on your site. Sure - I can sit there and click a mouse on my own site too. They pay $20 and zombiestat does the work. Some little slimeball pockets $20 and the person that paid $20 finally realizes that his and visitors are not the same thing.

I also found the vampirestat AND bthemes on the page views..I went on the bthemes website one time and never downloaded anything and I an finding page views from them now too! I sent blogger feedback, and they do a screen capture of the stats page I was on and the complete css file shows to the right of it.I informed them that these sites are creating pageviews and asked how to block them. I made the mistake by clicking on the vampire link one also and it is a domains for sale type of site. For now until I here back from Blogger I have limited views to blogger users only.

I fell into the trap. I have a new blog and so many views are from vampirestat, and I click it, also I have a few views from bthemes.info.

Same here peeps - vampirestate and bthemes - yet another example that someone is always ready to prey on the unsuspecting. Vampirestat can take a bite out of someone else, no more clicks from me. Great article, Sylvester. Thanks for the info.

I've been getting "hits" from both vampirestat & adsensewatchdog, I clicked on both of them and they are ad sites. Wish I could block them somehow.

Thank you so much! I did check before clicking and you apparently saved me from identity theft and also being disappointed.

This was very informative! Guess I don't have many "real" blog views then. :P

(If anybody would care to give some out real views. . . www.penniesothoughts.blogspot.com. Thanks! :)

Thank you! I was about to click on vampirestat but thought maybe I'd do a bit of research before I did.

Very helpful information. Most of my traffic seems to be spam from vampirestats (sad but true). However, if I look at the "posts" options in Blogger, the views that appear next to each post are much smaller numbers and I suspect these views are the real deal. Am I correct?

BTW, I wrote a post called "Is It All Spam? on my blog, palevanilla.blogspot.com There are no ads on my blog, just thoughts and musings.

So... I never clicked on anything, but now I have a virus or something on the computer I use for my blog. I am confused because the blog Isn't for profit- just for my own reference and anyone who likes to garden. :) But how did I get this virus? I don't use the computer for anything else and whenever I google anything about Blogger traffic sources, I am redirected to spam sites. (Including when I tried to click on this entry on the other computer.) I'm technologically illiterate, so any help is appreciated!

I should mention that it is ONLY when I google about Blogger traffic sources that I am redirected, which leads me to believe the two are connected.
